Binding, c. 1: old red goatskin. Boards tooled in gilt with double frames. Edges of boards tooled in gilt, page edges gilt. At center of boards, at corners of the inner frames and on the spine are impressions in gilt of a monogram composed of 2 C's and 2 M's. Remains of two pairs of ties at foredge. Centered on the front pastedown is the 19th-century armorial bookplate of: Mr. A. G.-du Plessis, with a pencilled note in English identifying the cover monogram as that of Philippe du Plessis du Mornay. This note is apparently by John Landwehr, whose label appears at the lower left-hand corner of the front pastedown. However, the monogram is not among those illustrated in Olivier, Reliures armoriées, for Philippe de Mornay, seigneur du Plessis-Marly, 1549-1623. Additional pencilled notes in Landwehr's hand appear on 2nd front free endpaper verso

As noted by Landwehr in his note in c. 2, the two copies are different issues. The imprint of c. 2 is: Antverpiae, Venalia apud Auctorem. M. DC. IIX. The preliminaries also differ. Copy 2 lacks "In Cupidines Othonis VaenI," by Max. Vrientius, p. [6]-[7] in c. 1. The missing gathering (:) in c. 1 makes it impossible to specify other possible differences
